Kathryn Amelia "Kathy" Weekley Thornton

d. October 14, 2024

Biloxi, MS

Kathryn Amelia "Kathy" Weekley Thornton, born in Biloxi in 1950, passed away on October 14, 2024, surrounded by family members, after a long and torturous fight with cancer.

Kathy is survived by and sorely missed by daughter, Amy Mazara Poulin; son, Adam Thornton; granddaughters, Ella Poulin and Brittany Coley; brothers, Donald W. Weekley, Jr. and Christopher E. Weekley. She was preceded in death by birth mother, Christine Dumas; grandson, Adam Thornton, Jr.; and her cherished stepmother, Mary “MeMe” Chatham Weekley.

Her parents were Donald W. Weekley, Sr., a U.S. Air Force officer and WWII U.S. Marine hero and Christine Dumas, both deceased.

An Air Force family, the Weekleys moved frequently and Kathy lived in Alaska, Colorado, Alabama and Texas before settling back in Mississippi and raising a family while operating her business, Biloxi Hardware. She also worked for years at Grand Casino Biloxi.

She was very smart and had a marvelous sense of humor…she could make anyone laugh and made friends with everyone she met.

Her final years were spent in an assisted living center. In between chemotherapy treatments, she died her hair purple, much to the delight of everyone who saw her. She thoroughly enjoyed her one-year reign as Queen of Mardi Gras of The Pillars where she enjoyed interacting and joking with the staff.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Allison Wall, oncologist and her staff for their care as well as staff at The Pillars of Biloxi, her final residence, for bringing joy into her life.

A burial ceremony and celebration of Kathy’s life will take place in Biloxi in December 2024 on a date to be announced.

Kathy was finally able to rest in a better place the evening of October 14, 2024 despite efforts by medical personnel to save her.

Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Kathryn Amelia "Kathy" Weekley Thornton.
