Kathy Mae Peterson “KP” was called to our Lord and Savior December 10, 2023. She was born June 3, 1951, in Philadelphia, MS to Claude “Willie” Williams and Luvia “Dee” Herrington.

Kathy graduated from Moss Point High school in 1969. She began her career at Ingalls Shipbuilding shortly after graduation. Kathy was a Logistics Analysts for the majority of her 40 plus years of her career. While she loved her work, co-workers, and social events, Kathy’s real joy in life came from raising her two children and later watching her grandchildren blossom.

She was with the love of her life, David Peterson, for 29 years and they were married for nearly 23. Kathy loved to have fun, and she loved people. She loved and treated all her children’s friends like her own. Kathy loved floating down the lazy river at the beach. She loved spending time with friends, family, and participating in her grandchildren’s activities. Kathy was very involved in Mardi Gras. She was a founding member of the Mystic Krewe of Dixie Dazzlers. She remained active in the Krewe which is celebrating their 40th anniversary and she was the current year’s President. She was a huge supporter of all carnival activities. She was even selected as Queen Penelope of Ulysses (1989), Queen Aphrodite of IMA (1989) and Queen Dixie the First (2010).

Kathy leaves behind her loving husband, Senior Chief David Peterson (USN Retired; children, Jeffrey (Sarah) Prestridge, Heather (Kris Blevins) Prestridge; step-mother, Jewel Williams; grandchildren, Jason Lee and Juliana Prestridge; sister-in-loves, Cyndee (John) Goff, Deb (Norman) Hamilton, Ann (John) Kasbohm; brother-in-loves, Joe (Anna) Prestridge, John (Wendy) Peterson; step-sister, Cindy (John) Galary; niece, Stacey (Brock) Killingsworth; nephews, Derrick (Courtney Tisdale) Goff and Ian Prestridge; cousins (who were like brothers,) Tim and Terry Copeland; dear friends, Becky Whitehead, her “Ya-Ya” sisters, Sharron Rankins; many other loving family members and friends; and last but not least her adorable dog, Fanci.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Claude “Willie” Williams; mother, Luvia “Dee” Herrington; step-father, Paul Herrington; mother-in-law, Virginia Peterson; father-in-law, John Peterson; and her dear Aunt “Dot” Copeland; as well as many other loved aunts and uncles.
