Hunter Howell, 59, a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast, passed away on July 24, 2008. He retired from the Army National Guard with over 20 years of service. Mr. Howell was a member of his local VFW. He proudly served his country in Vietnam and Desert Storm, earning many decorations and awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Combat Device, Army Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and Kuwait Liberation Medal among many others.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Barnes Howell and infant brother, Lowell Mark Howell.
Survivors include his father, Marion L. Howell and wife, Angie of Pearl; sons, Kinnon Hunter Howell, Jr. of Austin, TX and Kevin Howell of Ocean Springs, MS; a brother, Marion L. Howell, Jr. of Natchez, MS and a sister, Debbie Burnham of Ocean Springs, MS.
The family would like to extend special thanks to S.A.A.D. hospice staff as well as Major Tuli and staff at Keesler Medical Center for their devotion and care during Hunter's illness.
Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul United Methodist Church, 800 Porter Street, Ocean Springs, on Sunday, July 27, 2008, where friends may visit one hour prior to service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123-1718.
