Laneth "Chuck" Womack

Laneth “Chuck” Womack, of Gulfport, MS, passed away peacefully at the tender age of ninety-four on Saturday, May 25, 2024.

Laneth had just recently celebrated his birthday. He was born on April 21, 1930 in Lubbock, Texas. Laneth enlisted in the Navy when he was just seventeen years old, during the Korean war. Upon joining the Navy, he met his then wife, Catherine Baker, and they shared two children, a daughter Carolyn Womack and a son Dennis Womack. Laneth and Cathy shared a union for 25 years.

Laneth served his country for thirty years and was Chief Engineman. He was deployed on several ships throughout his career. He was an Ironman of the naval base competing against men much younger than himself.

Laneth was an avid gamer. He enjoyed all sports (mostly football and basketball) and all of the Olympics. Laneth shared a love for Mickey Mouse that has traveled down to his family. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with travel groups. Laneth ventured on cruises and even went to Ireland. Although he was a man of VERY few words, he was known for his one-liners. He also really enjoyed music of all genres.

Laneth was preceded in passing by his parents and siblings.

Left behind to remember him are his daughter, Carolyn Womack; son, Dennis Womack of Texas; grandchildren, Katt DuBose, Davina Eddy, Simon Womack and Victor Womack; as well as nine great-grandchildren.

A private memorial will be held by the family at a later time. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Womack family.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at the Armed Forces Retirement Home who took excellent care of Laneth, as well as to his Best Bud Sidney “Sid” Land, who would always check on him. He was eternally grateful for his loving daughter and granddaughters coming to see him regularly during his twilight years.
