Mrs. Laura Hermes, 76, of Biloxi, died Friday, December 19, 2008, in Biloxi. Mrs. Hermes was born in Riverside, California and had been a lifelong resident of Biloxi. She was known as the "Candy Lady" at the Rodenburg Avenue Church of Christ. She was active in local politics and participated in many local school organizations. She loved her church, family and pets. Mrs. Hermes was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Alfred Hermes, Sr.; parents, Clifford and Amelia Lee; sister, Dorothy Fountain; and brothers, Buster Lee and Clarence Lee. She is survived by her daughter, Rae (Mackey) Hopkins of Brandon, MS; three sons, Clifford (Carole) Hermes, Sr. of St. Martin, Alfred Hermes, Jr. and Joseph Hermes of Biloxi; sister, Julia (Jack) Tilley of Tucson, AZ; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at the Rodenburg Church of Christ where friends may visit from 12 noon until service time. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, in Biloxi is charge of services.
