Laura Jane Gill Meaut

Laura Jane Gill Meaut passed away peacefully at her home in Ocean Springs, MS on September 18, 2021 at the age of 95. She was one of eleven children in a big Irish Catholic family, and as a young girl, she loved riding her family’s horses She was always athletic and enjoyed cheering on not only her boys when they played baseball and football but also the Atlanta Braves and her beloved New Orleans Saints. Laura was a master gardener who enjoyed sharing her plants and flowers with anyone who expressed joy at seeing her beautiful yard. She was an accomplished cook and baker and enjoyed cooking a huge noon meal each day for her family and anyone else who happened to be stopping by. Daube Spaghetti and Seafood Gumbo were specialties. She was known in her family for all the incredible pies, cakes and cookies she made with so much love. Though she never learned to drive, Laura rode her prized red Schwinn bike all over town and could be seen on daily walks with her son Rusty and their little dog Miss Jean. Laura was a parishioner of St. Alphonsus church where she attended daily Mass with her sister, Shirley for nearly 40 years. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Joseph (P.J.) Sr. and mother Mollie Marie Catchot, and her mother-in-law, Lucy Meaut whom she loved as a second mother. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter Harrell Marie, and sons Rusty and Charles Meaut, She is survived by her remaining sons Timothy (Tim) of New Orleans, LA, and Kenneth who was her loving caregiver in her later years. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Joseph, Garrett (Morgan), Austin , granddaughter and namesake, Laura and great grandson, Ethan. Coming from such a large family Laura had many nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly. She will be missed by family and friends alike. Visitation will be on Monday September 27, 2021 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 pm. She will be laid to rest beside her son Rusty in Crestlawn Memorial Park in Ocean Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on Porter Avenue in Ocean Springs is honored to serve the Meaut family.
