Mr. Lawrence E. "Pop" Lawson, age 49, of Long Beach died Wednesday, September 1, 2010 in Biloxi. He was born May 30, 1961 in Grand Bay, Alabama to Ms. Beatrice Rogers from Long Beach, MS and the late James Herren Burks, Sr. of Bayou LaBatre, Alabama.
He graduated from Long Beach High School in 1979 and joined the Army in 1980. He was very creative in art and painting and loved auto mechanics. Lawrence was very dedicated to his family and friends no matter what their needs were.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Burks; his grandmother, Ethel McGee ; and his aunt, Eva Mae Green.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Beatrice Rogers; eight brothers; Maurice, Alexander (Bonnie) Lawson, Micheal, James Jr., Micheal (Anita) Burks, Peter, Carl, and Leroy (Jackee) Johnson; eight sisters, Shirley (Grover) Ducksworth, Bertha (Milton) Marshall, Linda, Carla (Barry) Walters, Beatrice, Zetta (Cliffton) Bowie, JoAnn (Louis) Banks, and Shantae; one aunt, Stella Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be Friday, September 10, 2010 at 12 noon at Progressive Baptist Church at 3113 20th Street, Gulfport with the visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
