Lealon Delane White, 91, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in Augusta, Georgia where he lived for the past 10 years. Lealon was born in Lafayette County, Mississippi and was a long time resident of Gulfport until moving back to his childhood roots in North Mississippi to be alongside his siblings in retirement.
After 40 years at The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company in downtown Gulfport he retired a proud and honest man of integrity, always holding high the meaning of hard work. He was a devoted volunteer at the Enid Lake Baptist Church and later Victory Baptist Church in North Augusta. He was a member of the Panola Masonic Lodge #66 and a Wahabi Shriner where he enjoyed countless hours of volunteering, always holding close to his heart children of need. His love for gardening was evident in his beautiful yard and bountiful vegetable gardens. He loved to dance, was an avid fan of boxing, Ole Miss Football, classic westerns and had a great dry sense of humor. He was a dapper gentleman with impeccable style who never met a stranger.
Lealon was preceded in death by his parents; Rube B. and Ethel Harris White, his loving wives Carmen Bennett White and Hazel Jackson White, his siblings; Claudie White, Norman White, Olen White, Jimmie Darby, Verna Herring and MaryLee Champlaine. He is survived by his children; Sherry White Braun (Erich), Debra White Elder (Peter Roy), Lealon D. White, Jr., Teresa White Sledge and Mark Alan White (Tana), his grandchildren; Blake Elder, Delsha Sledge, Delbert Sledge and Dahton Sledge. Also a host of bonus children, grands and greats, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to his caregivers; Annette Borum, Holly Borum and the Trinity Hospice Group. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 3pm with a memorial service to follow at 4pm. Services to be held at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home; 1726 15th Street, Gulfport, MS 39501.
