It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Leon Earl Kenney, aged 83, on January 25, 2025. He passed away in his sleep, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to his family, his church, and his community.
Earl was born on September 14, 1941, in Lubbock, Texas, to Leon Orville Kenney and Jewel Alice (Bolton) Kenney. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeremy Wade Kenney; and his sister, Mary Alice Kenney.
Earl married Linda Joyce Payton, a farmer's daughter from Southland, Texas, in May 1962. Together, they shared a life full of love and companionship, raising their children. Earl is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Linda Joyce Kenney of Vancleave, MS, and their children, Michael Douglas Kenney of Mobile, AL, Timothy Miles Kenney of Fairhope, AL, Leesha Lin Neuhold of Arvada, CO, Laura Lue Motes of Gautier, MS; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Earl had a distinguished career as an Electrical Engineer, working for Litton Systems for over 40 years. His work took him to various locations, including Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, PAX River Naval Air Station in Maryland, and Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS. Throughout his career, Earl contributed significantly to military aviation guidance systems, including work on supersonic test systems, the A6 Intruder and naval guidance and control systems.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Earl was most notably known for his commitment to his faith. He served as an Elder at the Vancleave Church of Christ for many years, supporting the growth of the church and impacting the lives of countless individuals in his community.
Earl’s life was defined by love for his family, faith, and the many people he touched through his work and service. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, integrity, and a life well lived. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Vancleave Church of Christ or a charity of choice in Earl’s memory.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on January 30, 2025 at Vancleave Church of Christ, 11101 MS-57, Vancleave, MS 39565. Friends may visit two hours prior. A reception will follow the service.
