Linda Mae Seymour Smith

February 11, 1928 — February 25, 2024

Ocean Springs

At last, you are in Heaven. Our sweet mother, Linda Mae Seymour Smith at 96, can rest and smile as she joins so many of her family, friends, and husband in the quiet beside God’s still waters.

Linda was an endless source to all of us of love, care, generosity, and kindness. A nurse by profession, she used her loving heart and education to provide comfort to those in need. As a wife, her 64 year marriage to Bill was the constant of her life. She called him My Happiness. As a mother, her children could never ask for a greater gift in life than her love and devotion to them, never ending and always constant.  She brought her years of wisdom, experience, love, and concern to anyone who came within her circle. Neighbors, relatives, and strangers all received the same open arms. As a young lady, Linda was full of life and fun. Those same qualities never faded in her 96 years.  Her sense of humor always showed up at the best of times for play with anyone else who was game - kids, grandkids, great grandkids, in-laws, new family members, and friends. The flowers in her yard bloomed to her touch, just like her kids.   Her home was always immaculate.   Her dedication to the Catholic Church remained an anchor in her life.

In the last years of her life, her little companion, Tomey, was by her side for comfort and provided the daily sense of purpose we all need. If there was ever an event that brought a renewal to Linda in her 80's, it was rescuing this little guy with his huge eyes and huge heart. A perfect pair.

Linda Mae Seymour Smith grew up in D'Iberville, MS. She attended Sacred Heart School where she was a cheerleader. She attended Hotel D'ieu School of Nursing in New Orleans. After marriage, she resided in Jackson, AL, Birmingham, AL, and Eufaula, AL.  She and her husband, Bill, retired to Biloxi, MS. After a brief move to Wetumpka, AL after Hurricane Katrina, Linda and Bill returned the coast, finding a home in Ocean Springs, MS near family.

Linda is proceeded in death by her husband, William Arnot Smith; her parents, Blanche Seymour and Leon Seymour; her siblings, Leon Seymour, Louise Seymour Perrien, Clinton Seymour, and Lindus Seymour.

She is survived by her children, Bruce Smith (Char), Robert Smith (Barbara), Byron Smith (Tricia), and Belinda Smith Serata (Robert).  Her legacy remains in her grandchildren, Madeleine Smith, Dennis Bartenbach, Rachel Krumland (Tommy), Kathlyn Van Buskirk (Spencer), Jessica Leese (Leroy), Cahill Smith (Heather), Camden Smith (Dan), Warren Smith (Fallyn), and Nathan Serata; in her great grandchildren, Kaden (Destany), Collin (Lauren), Maya, Addie, Asher, Ian, Xak, Emma Kate, Paxton, Eden Claire, Lindy, Matthew, and Truett; and in her great, great grandchildren, Bryson and Brylee. She was loved and celebrated by many nieces and nephews, their families, friends, in-laws, neighbors, and classmates.

A special thank you to her caregivers, Wanda, Dreda, Elvie, Joyce. You were a blessing to Mom and to our entire family.
