Lindbergh Slade

Lindbergh Slade, age 96, of Gulfport, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

Mr. Slade spent his life as a pipefitter and farmer. He was very proud to be a long-standing member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 568 Union with 76 years of membership. He spent most of his farming life on his farm and was well respected by the Lyman community. Everyone enjoyed the blueberries he grew and conversations on his front porch. Mr. Slade loved to fish. His fondest memories were fishing with family and friends. Speckled trout and flounder were his favorites to catch and eat. He also enjoyed duck hunting in his early life.

Mr. Slade loved his family. He loved his wife, Mary. After she passed away, he would often write letters to her to tell her about his day. In his last few months, the thought of her filled his mind and heart. He loved his children and all his grandchildren. Being with him was a joy and a blessing. They surely don’t make them like they used to! He will be greatly missed by so many! 

Mr. Slade was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hunter Slade; parents, Luther Slade and Lillie Mae Nix Roberson; brother, Preston Slade; and sister, Betty Lou Slade Laird.

He is survived by his children, Marylynn Slade-Stokes, Michael Slade, and Holly Slade-Husley and two grandsons, Ashley Evans and Jeremy Husley. Mr. Slade also had 5 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and a nephew.

Mr. Slade had a fond love of animals both big and small. They were a huge part of his life. He always had a cat sitting on his lap, and he gave faithfully to his local animal shelter. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for donations to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25^th Ave., Gulfport, MS 39501.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15^th Street, Gulfport where friends may visit one-hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15^th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Slade family.
