Lt. Col. Leo Lackie (US Army Retired) died at his home in Pass Christian on May 2nd, 2011. Born in England, Arkansas in 1931, he spent most of his youth in Arkansas and Oklahoma. At the age of 16 he joined the Army. He met his wife Doris at a military concert where he was a trumpet player with the military band, and they had a long and happy life together after their marriage in 1950. His 28 year military career included tours of duty in both Korea and Vietnam. He loved the people of Vietnam and was awarded medals by the South Vietnamese government for
his services there. He received his MBA from Southern Mississippi in 1975. After his retirement from the Army, he became district administrator for the MS State Board of Health residing in Hattiesburg and Jackson before moving to the Gulf Coast. While residing in Jackson, MS, he became an avid sailor and continued that passion upon his move to the Gulf Coast.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Doris C. Lackie, his brother Willard C. Lackie of Plano, TX, and his parents, Henry C. and Alyne Lackie, of McAllister, OK. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Pang of Long Beach, MS and Deborah Culler of Charleston, SC, his grandaughter, Laurel Pang of Starkville, MS., his brother Harold C. Lackie of Terrell, TX. his nieces, Donna Edmonds and Paula Walker of Terrell, TX; and nephew Hal Lackie of Va. Beach, VA.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th St., Gulfport. The funeral service is Friday, May 6, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with interment in Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors.
