Mrs. Lucille Odelia Womack Thurman, age 90, of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017.
Mrs. Thurman was born in Chase, Virginia. She traveled to New York City as a teenager where she met Bill Thurman, a sailor, during the war and they later married. She lived in Missouri and Washington D.C. for a while and settled back to Newport News, VA. Mrs. Thurman loved to travel and did so numerous times from coast to coast, visiting many national monuments. She enjoyed several trips to Mexico and Hawaii and a few trips to Costa Rica. She also enjoyed bowling, gardening and a variety of music from Lawrence Welk and especially Elvis. They lived in the Los Angeles area and moved to a desert oasis with the water district, enjoying swimming, dune buggys and flying. After retiring, they moved to Ocean Springs where many of her family members had settled. Mrs. Thurman passed peacefully, apparently without fear, pain or guilt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold William Thurman, parents, John and Helen Saunders Womack, brother, John Womack Jr, sister-in-law, Almetta Womack and a grandson, Tuare Thurman.
Survivors include her son, Donald Thurman, sister, Judy Collier, three brothers, Bobby Womack, Gerald Womack and Kenny Womack, grandson, Teva (Shana Anderson) Thurman, and two great-grandchildren, Teyah Thurman and Malakai Thurman.
Private services will be held at a later date.
