Lula Edith Whittle

Lula Edith Whittle, age 90, of Vancleave, MS., died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in Vancleave. Mrs. Whittle was a lifelong resident of the community and had worked as a housekeeper at Howard Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Vancleave. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Alvin G. Carlander, Sr. and Melvin J. Whittle, a daughter, Nena D. Tanner, parents, Jessie W. and Mattie Goff Tanner, sister, Matilda Taylor, brother, James D. Tanner, and four grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Lula N. Barbaree of Ocean Springs, MS., Margie L. Johnson of Chattanooga, TN., and Manna J. Weil of Cincinatti, OH, two sons, Alvin G. Carlander, Jr. of Vancleave, MS., and Algot G. Carlander of Slidell, LA., caregivers, Rachel and Willie Tanner, twenty two grandchildren, fifty one great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 23, 2006, from 5-8 PM, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Friday, March 24, 2006, there will be an 11 AM church service at the Community of Christ Church in Vancleave, where friends may call from 10-11 AM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
