M. Elena Diaz Broussard

M. Elena Diaz Broussard of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away on February 4, 2022. She was born on January 13, 1965, in New Orleans, LA to Dr. Albert and Sallie Diaz. She grew up in Ocean Springs, MS and attended Nativity Elementary, Scared Heart, and Mercy Cross Schools. Elena also attended the University of Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, MS, where she obtained a Master’s degree in Education; this is where she met her husband of 30 years, Paul Broussard Jr. Elena and Paul were married at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs, MS. She taught elementary school, and her students adored her. Subsequently, she worked with her brother, Dr. L. Michael Diaz and sister, Maria Diaz-Harris.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Broussard Jr.; son, Brennan N. Broussard; daughter, Nicole A. Broussard; her parents, Dr. Albert and Sallie Diaz; siblings; J. Maria Diaz (Robert) Harris, Dr. L. Michael (Dr. Hebe) Diaz; dearly loved  nieces, Kathleen Broussard, Shelby Fredericks, Sophia Diaz; and nephews, Michael Diaz, Nicholas Broussard, and Sean-Michael Fredericks.

Elena was blessed with family and friends for life, both home and away as the family move around the country, Elena’s last wish would have been health and love for her family and friends. The family asks that flowers be sent to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs, MS or that you make a donation to The American Cancer Society in her memory. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 9, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm followed by a memorial mass at 1:00 pm, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs, MS.  Interment will be immediately following at Evergreen Gardens Cemetery in Ocean Springs.
