Mabel Richards Davis died June 22, 2006, in Seguin, Texas. Mrs. Davis was a
descendant of several pioneer South Mississippi families including Richards, Cowart
and Ramsay.
A native of the Lorraine (now Gulfport) Community, Mrs. Davis graduated from
Woolmarket High School and attended Mississippi Normal College (now the University of Southern Mississippi). She was a resident of Wichita Falls, TX
from 1949 to 1978, where she was a member of Floral Heights United Methodist Church and the Dig and Delve Garden Club. She served as a President of the
Wichita Falls Chapter of the Texas A&M Mothers Club and
as a member of the Wichita Falls General Hospital Volunteer Ladies.
Mrs. Davis and her husband then retired to Gulfport where
they resided until February 2006, when they moved to Seguin, Texas. She was a
member of the Mississippi City United Methodist Church, the Gulfport Garden Club, and the
Beauvoir Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin Ammon and Myron Cowart
Richards; her brothers, John Homer Richards and Benjamin Ammon Richards, Jr.; and her sisters Hattie Richards Salmon, Mildred Richards Taylor,
Myron Richards Hobgood, and Lois Richards Erly.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years Lorne Arthur Davis, Sr., two sons,
James Alexander Clark and his wife Nancy of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Dr. Lorne Arthur Davis, Jr. and his wife Jean of Seguin, Texas, six
grandchildren: Deborah Clark Matthews, Jason Ramsay Clark, Susan Clark Lister, Stacey
Clark Burgin, Karen Davis Beaty, and Gail Davis Roberson; and three
great grandchildren: Ian Matthews, Ramsay Matthews, and Tallulah Beaty.
The visitation will be held at the Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home,15452 O'Neal Road,
Gulfport on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, from 5-7 PM. Funeral services will be held at Bradford-O'Keefe, O'Neal Road, Gulfport on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at 10:00 AM. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Coalville Cemetery.
