Madeliene Carol Shaw Bizub

Mrs. Madeliene Carol Shaw Bizub, age 56, of Ocean Springs, MS., died on Monday, January 30, 2006, in Ocean Springs. Madeliene was born on October 7, 1949, to the late Lura Adel Hall Shaw and Cimmie D. Shaw of Atlanta, Georgia. She led a varied and interesting life. She was a nurse by vocation and had served in the Air Force as a flight nurse during the Viet Nam War. She retired from the Air Force in 1991 and moved to Atlanta to care for her ailing mother. There she met her husband Larry on a blind date, and they married in November of 1996. They moved to the Gulfport/Biloxi area in February of 2000. Ms. Bizub was also a writer and loved contributing stories to local papers about growing up in the South and "living next door to Samantha Mae June." Being a formidable poker opponent and avid fan of the game of craps, she wrote many articles for Frank Scoblete's Casino City Times Newsletter. Madeliene was an accomplished artist, specializing in arts and crafts and the recycling of old, forgotten furniture that no one else seemed to want. She had recently returned to nursing and was working at Shepherd House II, a personal care home, at the time of her death. Ms. Bizub enjoyed quoting Jenny Joseph's 1961 poem "Warning, when I am an old woman I shall wear purple with a red hat…and make up for the sobriety of my youth." She was a fervent believer in the Red Hat Society's philosophy that women over fifty should "greet middle age with verve, humor, and elan" and that "silliness is the comedy relief of life." Madeliene was a member of the Rouge Chapeau Chapter of the Red Hat Society in D'Iberville. She is survived by her husband, Larry Green, son, Matthew Bizub, brothers, Dennis Shaw, Stacy Shaw and Dave Shaw, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Monday, February 6, 2006, from 10 AM - 12 Noon, with a 12 Noon memorial service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home.
