Manuel Andrew "Andy" Papania, Sr., age 81, of Gulfport, died Monday, February 7, 2011 in Gulfport. He was born in Gulfport and was a lifelong resident.
He was a graduate of St. John High School and Loyola University in New Orleans. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church where he was a member and Past Great Knight of Knights of Columbus Bishop Gunn Council.
He previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He taught electronics at Keesler AFB and also taught at St. John High School. He was owner of Papania Advertising for 42 years beginning in 1969.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie Papania; his parents, Leon Papania and Nellie Courduff Papania; and three brothers, Luke, Leonard, and Joe Papania.
Mr. Papania is survived by eight children, Joanne McDonald, Mary P. Williams and husband, Edward, Manuel Andrew "Drew" Papania, Jr. and wife, Cheryl, Dr. Mark Papania and wife, Karen, Christopher J. Papania, Thomas Papania and wife, Janet, Patrick Papania, and Matthew Papania; two brothers , Eugene and Bernard Papania; his sister, Alice Carruba; seventeen grandchildren, Dr. Jason Papania, Kimberly Henson, Stephen Papania, Shane McDonald, Rachel McDonald, Mark McDonald, Brooke Papania, Jonathan Papania, Lauren Newlin, Jamie Williams, Adam Papania, Sarah Papania, Laura Papania, Kate Papania, Andrea Papania, Mary Therese Papania, Sophia Papania and two great grandchildren, Phare Newlin and Isabella Papania.

The visitation will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 from 6 until 9:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport and the Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 12, 2001 at 12:30 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Gulfport where friends may visit from 11:30 until the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport with USMC honors.
