Margaret Mary Brou, 92, died at Havasu Nursing Center in Lake Havasu City, AZ, on Friday, February 20, 2015.
Margaret, the second of four children, was born in October 1922 in New Orleans, LA. Her parents, Edward and Bertrige, and brothers, Edward and Philip preceded her in death.
Raised in New Orleans, LA and Ocean Springs, MS, she attended Ocean Springs High School. She was a 1943 honors graduate of MSCW, member of the orchestra, member of many honorary societies and swim team captain- holding still standing swimming and diving records. Margaret was a laboratory technician and a high school science and mathematics teacher until 1950. She then began managing the family sporting goods business until retiring after 30 years. Life on the Mississippi Coast forged her strong character and resiliency as Hurricanes Camille and Katrina in 1969 and 2005 destroyed her homes.
After Katrina, Mary Ellen Bromfield, drove to Ocean Springs and moved her with her few pets and belongings to Lake Havasu City. With Mary's help, she remade her life yet again.
Margaret, an accomplished musician, was an organist and choir director for her Catholic church on the Coast and sang with the Our Lady of the Lake Choir in Lake Havasu City. Margaret was active in the VFW, the American Red Cross and the Civil Air Patrol.
Survivors include her sister, Claire E. Brou, of Ocean Springs; dearest friend, Mary Bromfield; nine nieces and nephews; two more generations of their families along with countless friends and acquaintances.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Margaret’s name to Catholic Charities or a charity of your choice.
