Margaret A. Broussard, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Ocean Springs Saturday, January 13, 2024. Affectionately known as “Maggie” or “Tookie” by family and friends, Margaret was born and raised on Point Cadet in Biloxi and was a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She was married to the love of her life Roland J. Broussard, Sr. for 65 years.
Margaret was a 1958 graduate of Biloxi High School. She had careers in the financial and restaurant industries. Margaret was active in the Roman Catholic Church, in which she was involved in women’s Cursillos, girl’s retreats, the Arise program, served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Michael Catholic Church, an Adult Advisor for both St. Michael and St. Alphonsus CYOs, volunteered at St. Alphonsus Church rectory and The Lord is My Help. Margaret was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus #1244 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing softball, sewing, crocheting, camping, and going on adventures, but most of all spending time with her family.
Margaret was proceeded in death by her parents, John J. “Joe” Ross and Lucille L. Nelson Ross; her sister, Barbara “Bobby” Paisant; brothers, Frank G. Ross, Sr. & Joseph “Joe Joe” W. Ross; and great-granddaughter, Aubrey Rose Newman.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Roland J. Broussard, Sr.; sons, Roland J. Broussard, Jr. (Toni) and Ross R. Broussard (Faye); daughters, Aline B. Balius (Ronald) and Ester B. Newman (Wiley); grandchildren, Roland J. Broussard, III (Carie), Olivia P. Newman, Ashleen M. Balius, Hunter A. Balius, Lindsay Salmons (Shandon), Valorie Anderson (Bill), Hillery Jenkins (Ron), Cagney Weaver (Jack) & Shannon Heermance; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Lucy Carter (Bill).
The family would like to thank Saad Hospice for the great care and comfort they gave to Margaret and the family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 502 Jackson Ave., Ocean Springs, MS 39564 on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 12:00 noon. Friends may visit from 10:30-11:30. All are invited to recite the Most Holy Rosary at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Biloxi City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Alphonsus Church, St. Vincent De Paul, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
