Margaret Mcwilliams Dickson

Margaret McWilliams Dickson, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 11, 2011 at Ollie Steele Burden Manor in Baton Rouge, LA where she was currently residing after losing her family home in Gulfport, MS to Hurricane Katrina. She was a lifelong resident of Gulfport. Margaret was born on April Fool's Day in 1922 to Dr. Charles Allen McWilliams and Nona Harry McWilliams. Her birth date afforded many playful party jokes, fried pies with cotton filling and wooden blocks made into petit fours. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Archie L. Dickson, Jr.; two daughters, Ann Dickson Miller and husband Terry H. Miller, Sr., Baton Rouge, LA and Mary Carolyn Dickson, Poplarville, MS; two grandsons, Terry H. Miller, Jr., Washington DC and John McWilliams Miller, Baton Rouge, LA. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Mary McWilliams Williams, Poplarville, MS. She was a graduate of Gulfport High School and the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) where she was a Chi Omega. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Women of the Church, Gulfport Yacht Glub, Gulfport Junior Auxiliary, and the Revelers. She was a wonderful cook and there was always enough for a surprise guest. She took pleasure in participating in her girls' activities: Girl Scouts, the sailing program of the Yacht Club and many school activities. She taught her two grandsons to fish, crab, and sail in the waters of her beloved Mississippi Sound. Visitation is at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on 15th Street, Gulfport at 9 AM, Friday, January 14, 2011, with service at 10 AM. Service conducted by Rev. Lucy Turner, a close family friend. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Lakewood Quarters Assisted Living, Ollie Steele Burden Manor and Hospice of Baton Rouge for Margaret's care.
