Margaret St. John

Mrs. Margaret St. John, age 89, of Ocean Springs, MS., passed away on Friday, September 29, 2006, in Ocean Springs. Mrs. St. John was born on May 9, 1917, in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania, and spent most of her adult life in Ocean Springs. In her earlier years she was active in the Catholic Church's Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and gave numerous talks around the coast. For many years she worked as a volunteer poll watcher during local elections. For over 20 years, she baked numerous delicious pies and cakes for the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church annual bazaars. During WWII she survived the Japanese bombing in Rangoon, Burma and the German submarines when she returned by boat with her family to the states. Margaret St. John was a very strongwilled, determined individual who was at the same time very compassionate and generous with others. Her consistent compassion and desire to help others was the personal quality that stood out the most. She also had an excellent sense of humor. She will always be remembered and missed greatly by her family and friends. Mrs. St. John was preceded in death by two husbands, Colonel Adrian St. John and Byron Glover, two sisters, Madeline Charnak and Albertine Oliver, one brother, Benjamin Oxley, and a grandson, Grayson Glover. Survivors include two sons, Robert and Richard Glover, one stepson, General Adrian St. John, two granddaughters, Beth Glover and Alicia Baker, and two great-grandchildren, Byron-Archer Baker and Montana Baker. On Monday, October 9, 2006, there will be a 10 AM Memorial Mass at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Ocean Springs. A reception will follow in the church hall. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
