Margarita "Peggy" Phillips

Margarita “Peggy” Phillips, 90, of Perkinston, Mississippi passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025 in her home with family and Deaconess Hospice present.

She was born on October 18, 1934 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Margarita's parents were Perfecto Muniz and Agnes Jaramillo. She earned an Associates degree in Education. She spent her life raising 5 children and keeping the home fires burning while her husband of 68 years, Johnnie, was in the Marine Corps (26 years). She taught school and had various other jobs. Johnnie and Margarita received the Lumen Christi award in 2007 and for over 30 years she helped her husband coordinator for Toys for Tots. She was also an Auxiliary Lady in the Knights of Columbus and served with her husband, Johnnie E. Phillips. Margarita loved to fish, as well as being a football and baseball fan. She loved the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Braves.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Perfecto Muniz and Agnes Jaramillo Muniz; and her baby sister, Rosemary Gordon.

She is survived by her two sisters, Christina Sautner and Martha Lowe; her children, Johnnie Jr. and Jacquelyn Phillips, Loretta and Ken Pasley, Agnes and Gary Travis, Martha and Lester Hagerdon, and Teresa Phillips; her grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jacobs Phillips, Brandy Williams, Keith and Brett Travis, Gerald Burnett, and Christopher and Kevin Hagerdon; her great grandchildren, Aloura Godwin, Jada and Brody Tenore, Savannah Williams, Corey, Skylar, Brittney, Haley, Sydney Hagerdon, Taryn, Michael, Daelyn, and Katie Burnett; many more great, great grandchildren; and her beloved pet, Vega Phillips.

A funeral service will be held Monday, February 3, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road, Gulfport, Mississippi where friends may visit one hour prior. Pall bears are Keith and Brett Travis, Corey Anderson, Justin Ansel, and Christopher and Kevin Hagerdon. Officiant is Father Paddy Mockler. Interment will be Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 12:30 PM at Biloxi National Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Deaconess Hospice, Chosen Generation Church and the many friends and family who helped in prayer, support and helping hands.
