Mariadelcarmen Meyer (Carmen), age 87, passed away at home with her family by her side on Friday, September 1, 2023.

 

Carmen was born April 13, 1936, in Panama City, Panama. In 1957, Carmen and Ray met by accident while he was stationed at Albrook AFB in the Panama Canal Zone. Married a year later, they moved stateside in 1959. While moving between Air Force bases, raising a family, and working full time, Carmen earned her Associates Degree in Business Administration at The University of Illinois and earned her U.S. Citizenship. Carmen spent her career managing Military Dining Facilities and was awarded the Best in Marine Corps Top Dining Facility, Camp H.M. Smith in Oahu, Hawaii. Upon Ray’s Air Force retirement in 1975, they settled in the St. Martin Area and Carmen continued her career at Keesler AFB until retirement in 1999.

 

Carmen was an active member and volunteer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D’Iberville. She also enjoyed volunteering and educating the community on her Panamanian Culture at Hispanic Heritage Events in the regional area. Hobbies include gardening, cooking, sewing, and going on trips with friends and family. She will be remembered for her joyful sense of humor, storytelling about her personal experiences, and energetic personality.

 

Carmen is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Raymond (Ray) Meyer; children, Geri Tonda, Mary Martin, and Joseph Meyer (wife Devon Meyer); grandchildren, Amy Bosch (husband Trevor Bosch), Ian Hodkinson, Joey Meyer, Corbin Meyer, and Sydney Meyer; fur baby, Penny; and siblings, Jaime Rodriguez, Guillermo Campoverde, and Bernardo Campoverde. She was preceded in death by her mother, Socorro Rodriguez; and brother, Magin Campoverde.

 

Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D’Iberville, MS, on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 11am with visitation one hour prior. Burial services will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery at a later date.
