Marie Garrett Anthony

Marie Garrett Anthony, 99, of Long Beach died Tuesday, June 5, 2018 in Long Beach. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carmel and Eugene Garrett; her husband, Alva Grant Anthony; sister, Emelda Garrett Cooper; and brother, Reimer Garrett. Mrs. Anthony is survived by her daughter, Carmel Patton and son, Michael Grant Anthony; and four grandchildren, Brett and Alexis Patton and Tiffany and Clay Anthony. Mrs. Anthony was employed for many years at the Hancock Bank, main branch in Gulfport. Hers was the voice you would hear whenever you called the main number of the bank- she was the “switch board operator”. Marie enjoyed speaking with all the customers of the bank and directing their phone calls. Mrs. Anthony was affectionately called “Toot” by those closest to her. She was a member of St. Thomas Church in Long Beach. She loved her family and friends and to garden, read, explore new recipes and put together very difficult puzzles. The family would like to thank the staff at Dixie White House for their kind and compassionate care of “Toot” during her lengthy illness. In lieu of flowers and per Mrs. Anthony’s request, the family is requesting any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The funeral service will be Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport where friends may visit one hour before the service.
