Marie A. Burbridge Hillard
Marie A. Burbridge Hillard was the youngest daughter of nine children born to the union of Lloyd Thomas Burbridge and Mary Velma Robinson. She was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on August 24, 1935. She entered life eternal on August 29, 2005. Five siblings preceded her in death.
She attended the public schools of Biloxi. She was employed for many years with Biloxi Regional Medical Center and volunteered with the Senior Companion Program.
In 1953 Marie married William Joseph Hillard, who preceded her in death in 2004.
Marie's life was characterized by her giving and caring personality and her love for her church, St. Paul United Methodist Church, where Rev. Edward Moses is pastor. She refused to stop visiting and caring for her friends and neighbors even through her last day on earth. She was a member of the Elk's Club, Eastern Star and Rainbow Social Club.
She will be widely remembered and held in affection by the many persons whose lives she has touched. Her survivors are: three daughters, Bernadette (Larry) Barnett of Richmond, VA; Mary (Wendell) McCarty of Killeen, Texas; Philomena (Tony) Smith of Biloxi, MS; five sons, William (Katie) Hillard of Topeka, KS, Gabriel Hillard of Hinesville, GA, Dexter (Rose) Hillard of Gulfport, MS, Julius Hillard of Swannanoa, NC and Christopher Hillard of Gulfport, MS; two sisters, Norma Taylor and husband Priestly of Jamaica, New York and Oleantha Moore of Lincoln, NE; two brothers, Lionell Burbridge of Biloxi, MS and Raymond Burbridge of Bishopville, SC; 22 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Services were Thursday, September 8, 2005 at 11 a.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church in Gulfport. Entombment was in Biloxi City Cemetery.
