Marie Louise Burg Eustice, age 93, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. A beloved mother and grandmother, she loved the Lord with all her heart and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Marie Louise Burg Eustice was born March 24, 1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the only daughter of Jules Louis Burg, Sr., and Caroline Carwile Mims Burg, both originally from New Orleans. Mrs. Eustice was also the sister of her three brothers, Jules L. Burg, Jr. (“Dookie”), John C. Burg (“J.C.”), and Edward N. Burg (“Eddie”). She grew up in New Orleans and was baptized at the age of 10 at the St. Charles Ave. Baptist Church. Her family then moved to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, where she attended high school at Bay High.
She then attended college at Birmingham-Southern College, where she studied art and French and was a member of the French Club. On March 1, 1950, she married Robert J. Eustice in a ceremony performed by the pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. After Dr. Eustice’s release from the U.S. Navy, they moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, and Dr. Eustice began his private dental practice in 1955.
She was very active for many years in the ministry of First Baptist Church, Biloxi, Mississippi, where Mrs. Eustice taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also active in the Gulf Coast Community Concert Association and the Gulf Coast Messiah Chorus. She was an avid reader and painter, having taken lessons from renowned artist Joe Moran. Much of her spare time was spent with her husband and her family in their mountain home in Highlands, North Carolina. It was a joyous time. They loved this mountain community and attending First Baptist Church in Highlands.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert J. Eustice; her parents, Jules Louis Burg, Sr., and Caroline Carwile Mims Burg; and her brothers, Dookie and J.C. She is survived by her brother Eddie Burg, two sons David Robert (Cathy) Eustice and James Jules (Julie) Eustice DMD, and two daughters Caroline Eustice (Thomas) Wicks and Elizabeth Eustice (Dean) Wakham DMD, and seven grandchildren: Robert Wicks MD, Marie Wicks, Elizabeth Wicks, Caroline Eustice (Travis) Hubbard, Christopher Eustice, Olivia Eustice, and Maggie Wakham.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the “Under This Roof” Campaign, care of First Baptist Church Biloxi, 1560 Popps Ferry Road, Biloxi, Mississippi 39532, or to the Salvation Army. A private service will be held.
