Martha Ann Volkel Park, a kind and gentle soul, slipped from this earth to be with her beloved family on June 28, 2006. Martha was born July 5, 1911 in Westport, Missouri, to Edward L. Volkel and Flora Dade Luckett Volkel. A longtime resident of Fort Worth, Texas, she lived in Biloxi, Mississippi, for the last four years to be close to her daughter, Jean Ann Park Remley.
Martha was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and Handley Methodist Church in Fort Worth. Her long life was filled with helping others. She delivered meals to shut-ins for 20 years as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Fort Worth. Martha was a friend to all she knew.
Martha's family awaits her in heaven, her father Edward L. Volkel, mother Flora Dade Luckett Volkel, husband William Richard Park, sister Marjorie Jean Volkel, daughter Judith Carolyn Park and son-in-law Carl Eugene Remley.
She is survived by her daughter Jean Ann Park Remley of Biloxi, MS; grandsons Keith Remley (Belinda) of Snellville, GA, Chris Remley of Columbia, South Carolina; and great-grandchildren Kyle, Katy, Claire, Clark Joseph (JC) Remley of Snellville, GA and Devin Remley of Mauldin, South Carolina.
Services will will be in the Leonard Memorial Chapel of First United Methodist Church, Fort Worth with interment at Green Wood Cemetery immediately following on Monday, July 3, 2006 at 10 a.m. A thank you to her special friends who watched over her in the last few years: Theresa Dantzler, Kendra Thompson, Carrie White, Mildred Boleware and Hillrie Cooley. Thanks to Quality Hospice nursing staff and Chaplain Bradford, who spent many hours caring for Martha.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial remembrances be sent to Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 4943 Glaude Street, Moss Point, MS 39563.
