Martha Bennett Cretin passed away July 11, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Martha’s husband of 66 years, Louis Cretin predeceased her in 2012. She is survived by her children; Barbara (Cullen) Barbier of Miami, Steve (Ann) Cretin of Nashville, Cindy (Roy) Williams of Ballwin, MO and Marcia (Darryll) Barksdale of Ocean Springs, her sister, Pat Rehm of Jeffersonville, IN, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Martha was a native of Louisville, KY and met her husband in New Orleans at Borden’s Dairy. Married after three months in 1945, Martha was a self-taught bookkeeper for several New Orleans’ businesses. She has been active in churches in New Orleans and at First Baptist Ocean Springs. Martha was a volunteer at Ocean Springs Hospital for years and was named Auxilian of the year in 2006.
Martha sewed clothes for her children and enjoyed crocheting afghans for her children and baby blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was welcoming and gracious to friends and relatives. She loved to bake, cook and win any game she was playing. Martha had many friends in her J.O. Y. Sunday school class and in the auxiliary. She had a generous heart and a quiet sense of humor that were evident until her death.
Martha loved her God, her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 4:00 at First Baptist Church in Ocean Springs, 602 Washington Avenue on July 14, 2015. The funeral will follow at 4:00.
