Martha Lestrade Holbein

Martha Lestrade Holbein, 80, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 in Tallahassee, Florida. Mrs. Holbein was born in Biloxi, Mississippi and lived there from 1988 until she was evacuated from Biloxi to Tallahassee for Hurricane Katrina. Marty Holbein was married to J. Peter Holbein for nearly 60 years, before his death in 2002. Together they raised four sons and lived in Toledo, Ohio, Cincinnati, Ohio, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Memphis, Tennessee and South Haven, Michigan. She remained in South Haven from 1962 until she and Pete retired to Biloxi in 1988. Mrs. Holbein was active in the Christian Science Church for over 40 years. She held positions as First and Second Reader, as well as serving on the Board of Directors in both South Haven, Michigan and Biloxi, Mississippi. Her spirituality, love and kindness were an inspiration to all of her family and friends. Mrs. Holbein is survived three children, James R. Holbein of Burke, Virginia; Paul T. Holbein of Santa Barbara, California; Mark J. Holbein of South Haven, Michigan; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth E. Holbein of Cleveland, Ohio, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Service at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Pass Road in Biloxi at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2006. A reception will follow the service. Ashes will be interred at a later date in Biloxi National Cemetery.
