On the morning of December 17, 2023, Marvin Lee Robinson Sr. passed away. He was born April 5, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri to Russell Eugene Robinson Sr., and Virginia Katherine Robinson. He moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1972, where he began his 35 years of employment at Ingalls Shipbuilding, hiring in on his birthday. He was known as Gabby to his ship-fitting coworkers. He said it was because in 1972 he had a long beard like the western actor, Gabby Hayes; others would say the nickname was due to his gift of gab, he was always talking, even in his sleep!
One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on the porch with his devoted wife of 32 years, Linda, and watching it rain. After his retirement, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and the couch, channel surfing, and tinkering in the shop. He was a classic car enthusiast who could identify practically every vehicle manufactured from the 1950s to the 1970s. He liked listening to old records, even when it wasn’t trendy, and would often recite song lyrics with an uncanny knack for relating the lyrics to what was happening at the time. Mr. Lee, as he was known to some, enjoyed spending time with his family, laughing, and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell Eugene Robinson, Sr., and Virginia Katherine Robinson; his youngest brother, Gary Kenneth Robinson; and his son, Nicholas “Nick” Lee Robinson. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Robinson (Jelinek); brother, Russell “Jack” Eugene Robinson Jr.; son, Marvin Lee Robinson, Jr. (Angela); grandson, Brett Robinson; cousin, Roger “Squirt” Siliven (Sue); and nieces, Amber Oseland, Delania Alexander, and Olivia Reynolds.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
