Marvin Owen Smith was born in St. Martin, MS on May 05, 1935 and passed away August 12th, 2012 at the age of 77.
He served 20 years of dedicated military service to his country, including tours in both Korea and Vietnam. During a tour to Germany he met his life companion Mabella and enjoyed regular trips back to see her family. After retirement from the service, he returned to his ancestral town of St. Martin where he captained his own boat, the Wayward Wind. Marvin lived out the rest of his years enjoying fishing, running crab traps, cooking out with family and enjoying family gatherings with good beer and wine.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred & Wilda Smith; one brother, Adrian (A.J.) Smith; two sisters Andrea Jean Donelson and Odessa Cone.
He is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Mabella Helene Gerda Smith; Six children, Pamela Welton, Jim Smith (Elaine)of Biloxi, MS, Elizabeth Canizaro of Vancleave, MS, Annette Bell (Richard) of Long Beach, MS, Karl Smith (Michele) of Canton, GA, and Bella Helveston (Will) of Biloxi, MS; twelve grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. where friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
