Mary Elizabeth Schmitt Lachin passed away Wednesday, February 10,2016 in her Diamondhead home surrounded by family after a long struggle with cancer.
Born in 1959 in New Orleans, LA., Mary moved to Mississippi at an early age though New Orleans remained close to her heart. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and ultimately followed her dream of being a mother and housewife.
Mary loved good food (both cooking and eating), socializing with friends and family, never missed a parade and was the biggest “Who Dat” there was. She could also tell you the birthdate of any person she ever met. She was loud, kind, thoughtful, tenderhearted, charitable, compassionate, loyal, helpful, faithful and loving with a presence that remained in the room long after she had left.
Mary is survived by the loves of her life, her husband Victor Guido Lachin III and daughter Caitlyn Elizabeth Lachin. Her siblings Lewis Schmitt (Barbara), Michael Schmitt III (Marsha), Raymond Schmitt (Carla), Frederick Schmitt (Donna), Christopher Schmitt (Stephanie), Brian Schmitt (Margie), Michelle Schmitt (Cathy), Sharon Schmitt Kuntzman (Cameron), Ellen Schmitt Summers (Steven), Rachel Schmitt; Godson Christopher Schmitt Jr, 26 nieces & nephews and 27 great nieces and nephews (who brought her such great joy throughout her life). She is preceded in death by her parents Michael Albert Schmitt Jr and Velma Tenney Schmitt.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said by Father Paddy on Monday, February 15th at 6:00 PM at the Most Holy Trinity Church on 9062 Kiln Delisle Rd, Pass Christian, MS. A reception will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, an organization Mary spent time working with to help bring an end to the disease.
Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
