Mrs. Hansen, age 98, a native and lifelong resident of Long Beach, MS, passed away
on Tuesday, Oct. 29, outliving all family members. She was a first generation American,
the last of fifteen children, born on Feb 4, 1921 to Vincent and Angelina Trippe Dauro,
both natives of Alia, Palermo, Sicily, who didn’t meet until the young Miss Trippe arrived
in the U. S. in 1895.
Mary was co-owner of Hansen’s Bake Shop and was retired from the Prudential
Insurance Co. She was also a Life Member of Memorial Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary,
serving for 14 years.
A lifelong member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, she also taught C. C.
D., was a charter member of St. Vincent DePaul Knights of Columbus auxiliary, a past
president of the St. Thomas School Mother’s Club and served on various other church
and school groups.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 54 years, William A. “Billy”
Hansen, Sr., eight brothers: R. J. “Charlie; Sam; Joe; John; Marion “Rena”; Vincent;
Angelo; Dennis “Pete”; two sisters, Theresa D. Schepens and Frances D. Killegrew, all
of the Coast.
She is survived by three sons, Wm A. “Bill” Jr. (Jackie); Daniel T. Sr. “Danny” (Beth);
and Stanley M. Sr. (Clara) and nine grandchildren, Danny, Jr. (Tracy); “Jeff” (Dori);
“Dusty” (Amanda) and Marty, Jr. (Elise) and Wm A. “Will” Hansen III (Heather); Ellen H.
Vinzant (John); Sheryl H. Smith (Brad), Wendy H. Dubuisson; and Holli H.Freeman
(Eric); eleven great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and three great great
grandchildren, with another on the way.
Heart felt appreciation is expressed to the staff of the Dixie White House Nursing Home.
Visitation will be at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10:00 a. m.
until 11:00 a. m. when the Mass of Christian Burial will begin. Interment will follow in the
Long Beach City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Danny Hansen, Jr. Jeff Hansen, Wm. A. “Will” Hansen, III, Dusty
Hansen, Stephen Hansen and Billy Skellie.
