Mary Iola Morgan Oglesby was born on July 16, 1908, in Amory, Mississippi, and she died August 17, 2008, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Mrs. Oglesby moved to Ocean Springs from Memphis, Tennessee in 1976, where she was a realtor. She was a contralto soloist at many churches in Memphis, as well as Temple Israel, was one of the founders and a performer of the Memphis Opera Theater, belonged to several music clubs including the Renaissance Club and Camerata Music Society. In Ocean Springs, Mrs Oglesby was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, the Ocean Springs Arbor Society, the Ocean Springs Garden Club, and a founder of the Ocean Springs Welcome Wagon Club. She was a member of the Gulf Coast Symphony Guild, the Gulf Coast Opera Guild, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, and she was one of the last true daughters of a Confederate veteran. Mrs. Oglesby was preceded in death by her parents, William Mitchell Morgan and Salona Jane Morgan; sisters Kate McCullough and Genevieve Allen; brothers C.J. Thompson and John Thompson; her husband Lynwood K. Oglesby; and her son Lynwood M. Oglesby. Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Jane O. Cook and son-in-law Dr. David W. Cook; her grandchildren David W. Cook, II, Sharlee Cook and L. Keith Cook; her great-granddaughters Daelyn Annette Cook and Jordyn Leigh Cook and special friend of the family Dan Krajewski. The family is extremely grateful to Ms. Margie Kellum and the staff at Settlers Point Personal Care Home for all the love, kindness and compassionate care they gave to Mrs. Oglesby. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, from 10 AM - 11 AM, with an 11 AM church service, all at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to St. John's Episcopal Church Altar Guild, 705 Rayburn Street, Ocean Springs, MS., 39564, or to the Organ Fund at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 6716 West Highway 90, Ocean Springs, MS., 39564. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
