Mary Jane Elder

Mary Jane Elder, age 68, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Sunday, July 20, 2008, in Ocean Springs at her home with her family. Mary Jane was born in Baltimore, MD, and lived most of her life there. She came to the coast in 1994. She retired as a housekeeping supervisor with the Grand Casino and Island View Hotel. She was a member of the D'Iberville Moose Lodge. Mary Jane was loved by everyone who knew her. She had charm, witt and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Gummer and Helen Gummer, a sister, June O'Neil and three brothers, Robert, Ronald and Clifford Gummer, all from Baltimore, MD. Survivors include (2) daughters, Linda McCarter Chodzko of Ocean Springs, MS., Terri Wells of San Antonio, TX., two sons, Glenn Haddox of Fredericksburg, VA., and Kevin Hunter of Trinity, NC, four grandsons, Ryan Haddox, Sgt. Christopher McCarter, U.S.A., Corey Allen and Zachry Hunter, and her friend and partner, Whip Watford of Ocean Springs. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS., 39507. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
