Mrs. Mary Kate Nielson Manuel, 82, of Ocean Springs, MS, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in Ocean Springs.
Mrs. Manuel was born December 31, 1925, in Biloxi and remained a lifelong resident of the MS Gulf Coast. She lived her young life in Biloxi, attending Gorenflo Elementary School and the Biloxi School System. Later she moved to the Latimer Community with her daughter. She moved to the Villa Maria, when she retired, where she made many friends and enjoyed the city of Ocean Springs. She was a member of Ann Grayson Chapter of the Order of The Eastern Star in Biloxi and Christus Victor Lutheran Church. She was a former member of the Lighthouse Business and Professional Women of Biloxi.
Mrs. Manuel was preceded in death by her father, Fred Nielson, mother, Mary Louise (Mamie) Mullen Nielson Shelton; brother, Fred Segard Nielson; son-in-law, Louis Wallis; and her ex-husband, Oliver Manuel.
Katie is survived by a daughter, Mary Kate Williams and her husband, Harry B. Williams; one sister, Lois Bird; brothers, Robert D. Nielson and his wife, Bessie, and Curtis G. Nielson; granddaughters, Valerie Wallis Morris, her husband, Lee Morris, and their two children, Mason and Madison, of Alabaster, AL, and Shellie Wallis Hoag and her husband, Robert (Rob), and their daughter, Katherine (Katie), of Fair Hope, AL; step-grandchildren, Robin Williams Pate and her husband, Bruce, and their daughters, Christa Anderson and Suzanne Pate, and Harry B. Williams, II and his wife, Dawn, and their daughter, Gabrielle Williams of D'Iberville; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation is Wednesday, May 7, 2008, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at D'Iberville Memorial Park.
