Mary Elizabeth Marcum

Mary Elizabeth Marcum, age 82, of Ocean Springs, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Mary was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on December 30, 1940 to Mary and David Tyrell. After graduating high school, she enrolled college for nurses training. She worked intermittently as a nursing aid throughout the years and also served as a homemaker. Mary, a devout Irish-Scottish Catholic, was an avid reader who loved the outdoors and took pleasure in observing small wild animals. She had a special love for all animals, especially her two schnauzers, Lorna and Caitlyn, who are rejoicing with her in heaven. Mary was fiercely protective of her family and never hesitated to share her “words of wisdom” with them. Above all, she was a devoted and loving wife to her “Marc” for 57 years. Though her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will miss her, they find comfort in knowing she always took joy in caring for them.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Reed Allen Marcum; parents, Mary and David Tyrell; and great-grandchild, Larry Widel III.

Survivors include children, Catherine Louise Knight (fiancé Shannon Walker) and Mary Catherine Allena Lewis (Jesse); grandchildren, Christina Griffin, Rether Allen Griffin, Sr. (Tashia), Amber Griffin, and Justice Knight; great-grandchildren, Caleb Griffin, Rether Allen Griffin, Jr., Yoid Gomez and Jacobi Gomez.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the Bradford-O’Keefe Ocean Springs Chapel. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 10:00 AM, also at the Bradford-O’Keefe Ocean Springs Chapel. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
