Mary Ruth Hicks Dupree joined her Lord and Savior Wednesday, March 15, 2017.
Mary Ruth was born August 7, 1928 in East St. Louis, Illinois and moved to Louin, Mississippi at age 6. She was graduated from Louin High School, Jones County Jr. College and received her BA from Millsaps College in Religion with a minor in Education.
Mary Ruth was a loving wife, mother and a dedicated elementary school teacher. Through the years, she taught in Natchez, Hattiesburg and Gulfport, and in Biloxi’s Lopez and Jeff Davis Elementary schools.
She was an active member of the J.T. Leggett United Methodist Church in Biloxi serving as Trustee, Executive Board member, Financial Secretary, Communion committee member, Sunday School teacher and as Choir member. She always took an active role in her two daughter’s activities, among them, serving as a Girl Scout Brownie troop leader and various PTA offices.
Mary Ruth is preceded in death by her husband: Henry Nolan Dupree, her parents: John Brownlee Hicks Sr. and Myrtle Perry Hicks, and her brother: J.B. Hicks, Jr.
Survivors include her daughters: Belinda Mallery (Paul) of Biloxi, and Rosemary Hammond of Griffin, Georgia, and grandsons Michael and Daniel Hammond of Griffin, Georgia.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017 at J.T. Leggett United Methodist Church in Biloxi where friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. till service time. Interment will follow in Southern Memorial Park. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 2511 Pass Road, in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
