Col. Matthew Jay Burinskas, Retired Army, age 55, of Moundville, AL passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023 in Forrest County, MS. He was born on March 3, 1968 in Berlin, Germany to Sherry L. Burinskas and Major Walter G. Burinskas, Retired Air Force.
Mr. Burinskas graduated from Biloxi High School in 1986. He attended University of Alabama for his undergraduate and received his Masters from Mississippi State University. He also attended University of Michigan Business School, Command and General Staff College and US Army War College. He received The Legion of Merit and was a three-time Bronze Star recipient.
Mr. Burinskas worked as a plant manager at Alabama Paper Products. He served in the Alabama National Guard for 28 years as Colonel. He enjoyed reading anything classic or history and was an avid Alabama football fan.
Mr. Burinskas is preceded in death by his step-mother, Dottie Burinskas; and by his brother, Christopher Veazey.
He is survived by his parents; children, Madelyn, Jacob, Laura Lee, Mary Evan Burinskas all of Meridian, MS; siblings, Jennifer (Joe) Mitchell of Biloxi, MS, Elena (Kyle) Skrinak of Apex, NC and Judy (Ron) Dunn of Bradenton, FL; extended family, Donna (Peter) Jacobs, April (Tim) Samuek, Dawn (Jake) McConnell and Carmen (Fred) Worton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Pass Road in Biloxi. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
A reception will be held at 825 On The Green Street, Biloxi, MS 39532 at 1:30 p.m.
