Mattie S. Dalgo

October 11, 1933 — January 19, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mattie S. Dalgo, who left us peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Born on October 11, 1933, Mattie was a cherished member of our community, a beloved friend and mother.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Jerry A Dalgo, Sr.; her parents, Everett and Lavert (Miles) Sumrall; sister, Mary Lee (Sumrall) Parker; half-sister, Nell Griffin; half- brothers, Tim Sumrall and Dean Sumrall; and grandson, Eric Dalgo.

She is survived by three sons, Angelo "Andy" Dalgo (Sheila), Jerry Dalgo, Jr., and Robert "Bobby" Dalgo (Jennifer) all of Ocean Springs, MS.

Mattie was born and raised in Perkinston, MS. After high school, she got a job at Balter Realty in Biloxi, MS where she rode a bus to and from work for 10 cents each way. After a while, she met Eileen Broome and became her roommate in an apartment over Henrietta's Restaurant in Ocean Springs, MS. She was introduced to Jerry Dalgo Sr. by her future sister-in-law, Helen Foretich, and was married on December 13, 1953. They lived in Biloxi for a few years but eventually moved to Ocean Springs in 1958. Her husband, Jerry, opened Crown Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Fiat in Pascagoula, MS in 1976. Mattie worked in the office and eventually became the first female Chrysler Dealer in Mississippi. They both worked at Crown until they retired in 1999 when their sons Andy and Bobby purchased the dealership and took over operations.

Beyond her professional life, Mattie was a devoted wife, loving mother to Angelo "Andy" Dalgo, Jerry Dalgo, Jr, Robert "Bobby" Dalgo, and a doting grandparent to Leila Vargas, Adam Dalgo, Caitlin Dalgo, Cody Dalgo, Eric Dalgo, Chase Dalgo, Emily Dalgo, Savannah Young and Bailey Dalgo; and her five great grandchildren. Family meant everything to Mattie, and she always made time for them. Mattie had a strong work ethic as well as a very strong urge to shop. She was a prolific shopper. No one could find a bargain like Mattie!

In her later years after the passing of her husband, Jerry, Mattie moved into Lighthouse Assisted Living in Ocean Springs. She was their 3rd resident after they opened. The wonderful care givers and nurses all loved Ms. Mattie.

A funeral service to celebrate Mattie's life will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs, MS. Friends and family are invited to attend and share their memories of Mattie from 10 am – 11 am. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.

Mattie leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and inspiration. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her strong spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. As we say goodbye, let us remember the extraordinary life of Mattie and the indelible mark she left on our world.
