Max H. Jordan, Sr., 103, passed away at his home Monday, December 12, 2016 with his family at his side.
Mr. Jordan was born in Jones County, MS and graduated from Jones County Agricultural High School. He attended Jones Junior College and received a B.S. from State Teachers College, now known as the University of Southern Mississippi. He began his long working career as a teacher at Biloxi High School and then became a rural mail carrier until he was drafted into the Army during WWII. He left the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and returned to the Postal Service. He was active in the National Rural Letter Carriers Association where he served as Vice President and President, which required moving his family to Washington, D.C. Mr. Jordan was later hired to work as an Administrative Officer within the Postal Service until his retirement in 1971. Upon his retirement, he and his wife returned to his residence in Ocean Springs and became active in the Gulf Coast Community. He was active in the Ocean Springs Lion’s Club, the Masons, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mr. Jordan was a man of faith. He met his wife of 77 years attending First Baptist Church of Picayune. They faithfully served their Lord together in Baptist Churches in every place they lived. He taught Sunday school, Bible Studies, and served as a Deacon. They have been members of First Baptist Church of Biloxi for 64 years.
Max is preceded in death by his parents, Van and Anna Jordan; and brothers, J. Wilbur Jordan and Bryce Jordan.
Max’s survivors include his wife, Archa Jordan; his daughter, Marcella (John) James; his son, Max H. Jordan, Jr.; three grandsons, John “JJ” (Gina) James, Kevin (Jessica) James, and Michael (Kelley) James; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with a 1:00 p.m. service, all at the First Baptist Church of Biloxi. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park.
The family prefers memorials be given to the Jordan Family Honors College Scholarship Endowment, the University of Southern Mississippi Foundation, 118 College Drive # 5210, Hattiesburg, Mississippi 39506-0001.
