Mr. Melvin Joseph Raley, age 68, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Tuesday, January 25, 2011, in Orlando, FL.
Mr. Raley was born in New Orleans, LA. and was a longtime native of Biloxi. He graduated from Biloxi High School in 1960 where he lettered in all sports and also graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. He retired with thirty eight years of combined service with the United States Air Force as a Department of Defense Civilian Employee and traveled the world. Mr. Raley was an avid golfer who represented Mississippi in the National Senior Olympics Competition for the last six years. He played golf throughout Mississippi and Alabama and was a teacher and coach in the Biloxi Public School System.
Mr. Raley was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Myrtle Trahan Raley.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sandra Raley of Ocean Springs, three sons, Glenn Raley of Mt. Pocono, PA., Penny and their two children, Cameron and Madison, all of Ocean Springs, Greg (Bonnie) Raley and their children, Maddox and Cade, all of Deerfield Beach, FL., and Chris (Leslie) Raley and child William, all of Birmingham, AL., and three brothers, Wendell (Ginny) Raley of Woolmarket, Terry (Beth) Raley of Gulfport and Butch Raley of Ridgeland, MS.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 31, 2011, from 2 pm until 3 pm, with a 3 pm Mass of Christian Burial, all at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Biloxi. Burial will be at a later date.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
