Mercedes Mary Buchanan

Mrs. Mercedes Foley Buchanan, 76, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed peacefully away in her home on Thursday, June 17, 2010. "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth." Mercedes was gentle and humble in heart. Mrs. Buchanan was born in Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada, on November 7, 1933. She has lived in the United States since 1955. She enjoyed family, prayer, gardening (known for her love of bulbs and pansies); travelling, tea time, and lived an uncomplicated, simple life. Survivors include her children: Linda Buchanan Grayson of Navarre, Florida, (Brian); Darlene Buchanan Caranna of Gulfport, Mississippi, (Tony); James Edward Buchanan of Mandeville, Louisiana; and Debbie Buchanan of Gulfport, Mississippi; her grandchildren: Heather Miller, Holley Burleson, Jay Caranna, Collin Caranna, Nicholas Buchanan, Chloe Palma, Elise Buchanan and her great grandchildren, Fashia Miller, Skylar Burleson and Gage Watson. In lieu of flowers, family prefers memorial gifts to St. James Church St. Vincent de Paul Society, 366 Cowan Road, Gulfport, MS 39507. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 noon Monday, June 21, 2010, at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, in Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
