Michael Garth Fayard, 74, of D'Iberville, MS passed away on Monday, August 29, 2011. Michael graduated from D'Iberville High School, Class of 1955. He enlisted in the US Army National Guard prior to high school graduation. Michael retired in 1975 as 1st Sergeant after a distinguished 20 year career in the Army Security Agency (ASA). He was a veteran of the Vietnam War from 1968-1970 where he served with the 25th INF DIV at CuChi, RVN. He was a life member of the VFW and a supporter of the DAV. Michael also retired in 2002 after 28 years of service at the Biloxi Veterans Administration Hospital. He was a member of the Fleur de Lis Society and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Davis and Margaret Beaugez Fayard; sister, Mary Ellen Fayard; brothers, Mark Joseph and Charles David Fayard. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Myrna (Peggy) Barnes Fayard of D'Iberville; daughters, Twila (Gary) Rosonet, Amber (Leonard) Bentz; sons, Robert (Tammy) Fayard, Michael (Suzanne) Fayard and Mark (Robin) Fayard; twelve grandchildren, Paige, Darby, Ryan, Joel, Angie, Jody, Lance, Dalton, Brennan, Mark, Len and Hunter; four great-grandchildren, Billy, Piper, Zachary and Troy. Also survived by sisters, Martha Fountain, Nadine Thompson and Cheryl Fayard; brother Paul Henry Fayard. Michael was loved by all who knew him. He was a man of great integrity, honor and strength. He was a gentle spirit that touched everyone he came in contact with. Michael exhibited great courage in his life and in his personal battles with the scars of war. He loved his family deeply and he will remain with us in spirit. The family would like to express their gratitude to all who have offered their continued prayers and support during this difficult period. Visitation will be on Monday, September 5, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer service at 6:00 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Biloxi. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Woolmarket at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until mass time. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the: Disabled American Veterans, 2600 23rd Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501-4933.
