Michael Wilburn Kirkland

Michael Wilburn Kirkland passed away on March 16, 2022 in Gulfport, MS. 

Michael was 37 years old, born in Ocean Springs on December 30, 1984.  He was a caring, kind-hearted individual with a zany sense of humor and an extreme intellect. 

He received his Specialist degree in Education in 2020 and was working on his Doctorate at William Carey College. He operated an on-line business, “A Grade Above”, where he tutored individuals on-line.  He cared about his students and tried to reach each individual in a way that not only helped them with their studies but also with their self-confidence and self-esteem. 

Michael was an avid Saints fan and a self-professed video game nerd. He had a great faith in God and strove to be a good Christian.

Michael is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jessie Wilburn Kirkland and Elma Ruth Blankinchip, Horace Eugene and Johnnie Ruth Breazeale; his uncle, Mancel Kirkland; his aunt, Sue Evans; his cousins, Donna Pounders and Nora Hofer. 

He is survived by his father, Wilburn Kirkland; his mother, Patti Kirkland; his brother, Patrick (Tessa) Kirkland; and his adopted brother, Kyle Bryant as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.    

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to ASPCA or your local animal shelter. 

Our hearts are broken. His death is a tragic loss to us and to the world but what an Angel Heaven has been blessed with. 

A visitation will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs on Monday March 21, 2022 from 5 PM to 7 PM.  A private service for Michael will be scheduled at a later date.
