Michael B. West

Michael B. West, 81 years of age, resided in Ocean Springs, MS with his wife of 56 years, Marcia West.  He passed away at home on Christmas Eve. Born in Mobile, AL to Carl and Lucille West, he became a caretaker for his mother when in the 5^th grade, after the passing of his father.  He attended schools mainly in Mobile and Picayune, then attended Alabama College (University of Montevallo), all the while working to support his mom.

He started as a 7^th grade math teacher after graduation, then as a computer programmer at Chrysler Aero, then General Electric as a part of the Apollo program. He later started a company with Andrew Gilich, Gulf South Analytical, then it branched into CAFS (Computer Assisted Food Service) and later became SL-Tech. His favorite activities were spending time with family and his church family (First Presbyterian Ocean Springs), Cruisin’ the Coast, adventures with friends to the Naval Aviation Museum, and his ministry at the Home of Grace. He shared his love of Christ everywhere he went and led a life of generosity. Mike is now in heaven with his oldest son, Michael Christopher, who passed away at 8 years old. He is survived by his wife Marcia, daughter Ember Guthrie (Chris Guthrie), granddaughter Cara Pitts, son John West (Jennifer West), and grandsons Caleb, Nathanael and Josiah West.

Services are to be held on Thursday, January 4^th at First Presbyterian Ocean Springs. Visitation starts at 10 am, funeral begins at 11 am, with a reception to follow on site (light refreshments). His body will be laid to rest at Pinecrest Cemetery in Gautier, MS (family only).
