Michael Yanik

Michael Yanik, 88, of Ocean Springs, died Saturday, June 20, 2009 in Gulfport. Mr. Yanik was born on January 14, 1921 in Carteret, N.J. to Michael & Catherine Yanik. He served his country in the United States Army where he was a World War II and Korean War Veteran. After twenty-two years of service, he retired as Sgt. Major. He is also retired from the Lake Aerial School District in Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Yanik and two brothers, George & John Yanik. Survivors include his wife, Carmella (Mae) Yanik of Ocean Springs; daughter, Judith A. Thomas of Woodbridge, N.J.; two sons, Michael D. (Barbara) Yanik of Milltown, N.J. and Ronald A. (Tommie) Yanik of Ocean Springs; five grandchildren, Ronald, Michelle, Danielle, Douglas, & Leslie, and six great-grandchildren, Shawn, Desirae, Sheryl, Thomas, Michael, & Calvin. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 with military honors at Biloxi National Cemetery.
