Mildred Penny

Mrs. Mildred Fortner Penny, 82, of Biloxi, passed away Monday, March 8, 2010, after a battle with lung cancer. Mildred was born in Biloxi and raised on Back Bay. In her early years she was employed as a bookkeeper at the A & P on Howard Avenue in Biloxi. She later went to work for the First National Bank of Biloxi, left for a brief period to raise her children and returned in 1963. She retired from what was then the Bank of Mississippi with a combined 33 years of service at the bank. Mildred was a Catholic and attended Our Lady of Fatimia in Biloxi. Preceding her in death were her parents, Frank and Stella Bennett Fortner; husband, Paul Penny; beloved daughter, Cathy Penny; sisters, Ida M. Saucier, Florence Fayard, and Helen LePoma; brothers, Henry Fortner, Jimmy Fortner, William "Billy" Fortner, and Robert "Bobby" Fortner. Mildred is survived by her two sons, Ramon Penny and Damon Penny and his wife, Jackie; son-in-law, Tommy Huntsman; grandchildren, Bryce and Britt Penny, Sean Huntsman and his wife, Dana, and Erin Danielle Huntsman; one great grandchild, Elijah Huntsman; and one sister, Irene "Wootsie" Fountain. The family would like to thank Dr. Dawn Hansen and her entire staff for the loving care they provided to their mother. In addition they would like to thank the two angels that entered her life from Deaconess Hospice, Nurse Susan Valenti and Caregiver Mandy Smith. Their love and care made her last days more comfortable and peaceful. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 314 Jim Money Road, Biloxi, MS 39531. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Biloxi City Cemetery. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, Biloxi is in charge of services.
