Mildred Scott Richard died peacefully in her home in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, on November 2, 2020.
Mildred was a loving mother and a generous person to all who met her. She was always quick to help whoever needed a hand.
Mildred was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Ocean Springs and taught the J. O. Y. Sunday School class for seventeen years. In her career, she taught elementary classes at Taconi and Oak Park Schools for eighteen years, and was honored to receive a teacher of the year award from Ocean Springs School District. Mildred was born in Eupora, Mississippi, and lived in Memphis, Tennessee, Crowder, Mississippi, and Clarksdale, Mississippi prior to moving to Ocean Springs. She used to say she got sand between her toes and never wanted to leave.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Earle Richard; sisters, Katherine Hester, Elizabeth Shockey, Hazel Hall and Martha Ganss; and brothers Omar (B) Scott and James Scott.
She is survived by her children, Ann White, Sue Griffin, Laura Kiernan, and Earle Scott Richard; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several great- great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs on Friday, November 6,2020. Visitation will be held at one p.m., before the two p.m. service begins. A private interment will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve this family.
